🚀 Discovering AVELO

Diving as we have never seen before.

We've just had the privilege of living an experience that completely changed the way we see diving. Our friends at Antigravity Divers invited us to the beautiful Perhentiani Islands in Malaysia to try out something completely new: a revolutionary dive system called AVELO.
We were incredibly lucky to learn directly from the brilliant mind behind the system, Aviad, as we trained with the hydrotank and jetpack.
From the moment we arrived, we were both excited and curious. After years of diving with traditional setups - BCDs, lead weights, constant gear adjustments - the idea of doing things differently sparked a mix of intrigue and skepticism. Would this be just another gadget? Would it feel awkward after so much time diving the "old way"? Is it true that it is lighter? How will it affect the safety?
A Game Changer in Comfort:- Lightweight Like Never Before
The first thing we noticed with AVELO isn’t in the water - it’s before you even step in. The Avelo tank, made of carbon weighs only around 7 kg. As we don't use BCD the amount of extra kilos we need to dive decreases considerably. In our case, diving in warm waters, we did not use any kg.
For anyone who's ever walked down a beach with 15+ kg on their back, this is a dream coming true. For beginner divers, it's a complete game-changer: no more struggling with heavy gear, weights adjustments and hard balances before the dive even begins.
Smooth & Safe Descents - no more Uncontrolled Drops
One of the most impressive aspects? No more uncontrolled descents.
How many times have we seen divers drop like stones, being over-weighted and struggling at the surface to descend? This often leads to stressful moments, unproper use of the BCD, issues with proper equalization, pain and possible consequential injuries.
Avelo System combines an air tank and buoyancy control into a single unit. Instead of a traditional BCD (buoyancy compensator device) that inflates and deflates with air from the tank, the Avelo system uses water displacement inside the tank's chamber to adjust buoyancy. This design allows for much more precise and stable buoyancy control. Since the system doesn’t rely on compressed air in the traditional BCDs, your buoyancy doesn’t fluctuate as you change depth - air volume doesn’t expand or contract under pressure.
NEUTRAL Buoyancy at Any Depth - (No Adjustments Needed)
Here comes the magic: neutral buoyancy with Avelo is almost constant, with very small adjustments needed.
At the beginning of the dive, the diver sets neutral buoyancy by adjusting the amount of water in the system. From that point on, you don’t need to keep adjusting during the dive, because the system maintains the exact same volume and mass balance - no expansion/compression issues like with air-filled BCDs. The diver can go from 20mt up to 5mt, the system stays just as stable.😮
That completely removes the usual “inflate/deflate” dance every time you change depth, especially helpful for beginners but also amazing for experienced divers who want to focus on the dive and not on their gear.
Effortless Safety Stops

We loved this part: safety stops become not only easier, but making them more precise the dive itself becomes safer.
No more hovering stress, no more fighting to stay at 5 meters. Avelo system lets you stay right where you need to be, floating like a cloud, without inflating or purging air.
For new divers, this is a great confidence boost. For instructors? Pure peace of mind.
Trying avelo & training - How It Works & Why We Think It’s the Future of Diving
So, how does AVELO really work? What makes this technology so effective? And why do we believe it’s going to reshape the future of diving?
🔗 Don’t miss Part 2 of this blog series, where we break down the technology behind the system, talk about Shearwater integration, and share why we believe AVELO is not just a new product, but a revolution.
Curious to try AVELO for yourself? The official AVELO course is a fun, hands-on training designed for all levels — from new divers to seasoned instructors. The course includes both theory and in-water sessions where you'll learn how the system works, how to fine-tune your buoyancy, and how to dive more efficiently with less effort. 🌊
You can take the course at certified AVELO dive centers around the world — like the amazing Antigravity Divers in the Perhentian Islands, where we did ours! https://diveavelo.com/
